Tips To Wash Your Silk Sarees

During the wash, follow the below tips to ensure the fabric isn’t damaged in any way-

1. For the first 3-4 washes, rinse the silk saree or regular sarees in plain cold water and do not use soap for these washes.
2. After the first few washes, always wash your silk sarees in mild detergent to protect the fabric and luster. You can also use protein shampoo which will help to retain the protein in the silk.
3. It is best to wash your pallu, border and the remaining part of your saree separately.
4. When washing the saree, avoid wringing and twisting the woman saree because this can damage the threadwork of the saree.
5. Also, avoid brushing or lashing the silk saree because it can damage the zari work of the saree.
6. It is best to wash the silk sarees separately because if you wash it with bright colors, the colors might wash all over the saree which can stain your expensive silk sarees.

Once you are done washing the saree, here are a few tips to ensure it dries properly –

1. It is important to dry the saree immediately once it is washed. Do not leave the wet saree rolled up in your laundry room.
2. Rolling the wet saree in a dry towel helps to remove all the excess moisture which will make it easier to dry.
3. Hang the saree on a padded hanger and keep it out of direct sunlight to make sure it dries properly and doesn’t fade away.

While this might cost a lot, it is definitely an excellent way to clean your expensive silk sarees. This is because the fluids used in dry cleaning contain little to no water which means that they do not penetrate into the saree fabrics. Due to this, the soft silk fabric does not get damage at all. When giving your clothes to a dry-cleaning company, ensue that they have experience in handling silk items. If they haven’t handled silk clothese before, chances are that they might just damage the fabric either during the wash or during the ironing process. In the ironing process, the iron needs to be kept on medium heat only. Steam irons are the best way to iron your delicate silk sarees.
